What is coaching?

  • A confidential, collaborative partnership that inspires individuals to maximise their personal and professional potential

A typical coaching conversation between you and your coach and will focus specifically on your outcomes, with a view to helping you discover the answers for yourself.  After all, we are more likely to engage with solutions that we've come up with ourselves rather than those that are forced upon us!

What's the difference between coaching and mentoring?

A mentor is a wise and trusted guide or advisor who will share their knowledge with you, based on their own experiences.  The key difference between mentoring and coaching is that a mentor will offer advice as they've 'been there done that', whereas the coach will offer suggestions to help you self-discover.  In an organisational setting, a mentor is usually someone who will bring their 'mentee' up through the ranks on their career path.

A coach is skilled at observing patterns and facilitating change through effective questions.  They will work alongside you to help you implement  new behaviours so that you achieve your desired outcome.

BJ Projects coaching arrangement operates as a partnership with you, facilitating a thought-provoking creative process inspiring you to maximise your personal and professional potential.

The coach is the subject matter expert at coaching, not the subject matter expert for your specific coaching topic.  The coach will help you keep a future-oriented focus and will work with you to help you get there.

"Life is a series of small decisions.  A big change is often many little changes saved up for the right moment.  Each decision we make either keeps us on the same comfortable track or takes us towards what we truly want.  Coaching helps us to decide."

- Joseph O'Connor

How do I start?

Our first meeting involves a FREE, no-obligation compatibility check.

I believe that to develop a successful coaching relationship you need to know who you're partnering with.  You need trust and confidence that your coach has the skills and expertise to provide you with what you want.

The first hour allows us both an opportunity to get to know one another.  You get to interview your coach and I get to find out what you want to achieve from your coaching investment.  If, after the initial meeting you're not comfortable, or I'm not the right match for you, there's no obligation and no charge.  And, if I don't think I can help you get the results you want, I'll refer you to someone who can.

What happens when I book a session?

Once you engage me as your coach, we make an appointment date and time and a place to meet up.  You'll receive a confirmation letter and terms which is a way for me to ensure that you know what my obligations are to you in the coaching partnership.

It is up to you to come prepared for each coaching session.  You'll be asked what your outcome is so that we have a clear focus for each meeting.

Coaching meetings can be arranged at weekly, fortnightly or monthly intervals to accommodate your requirements.

You have the option of either paying cash at your appointment or paying on invoice within 7 days of the session.

"Life changing in all aspects of life.  Both professional and personal.  I've learnt communication is always key and now have the knowledge and a better understanding of all areas of communication". J.B.

"Kept in contact throughout the coaching and ensured the staff were well supported".  LH, Business Owner.

"I would recommend Barbara strongly and say book some sessions with confidence that positive change and a clearer, more focused and possible path will unfold.  It was a strengthening experience and I see myself in a new and positive light and I'm not giving up on my dreams that seemed previously to be receding unreachably into the clouds.  Barbara has such a clear, gentle yet powerful manner - I felt I was in safe and wise hands.  I found her intention to guide and help so genuine, positive and clear - that catalysed positive changes in me.  I gained new tools from the first session that have really helped me change my thinking and have more confidence in my decisions.  I was very surprised to see how by using these tools and the self-insight I gained, it actually changed others' to thinking more positively around me.  A very powerful and very valuable experience."  - J. Blumsky

"I appreciated BJ Projects open, direct and kind communication style.  This was refreshing and prompted me to self-relfect where I may not have with a less forthright approach.  I always felt safe to explore personal issues around what was holding my business back from development.  Practical advice was useful, as well as expertise around setting and working on goals and the infallible reliability of BJ Projects" - Marcia Underwood
"... Thank you for your help, you made me realise I can't just wait for the right thing to come along.  After speaking with you I got brave ..."  - SS

"For me, I never knew what an NLP coach was. …I thought it’s all about influencing others to get what you want … actually it starts with yourself, not others, and indeed this is one of the big take-aways. I have learned and practiced my ability to interact with others including how people conduct themselves in relation to others either consciously or unconsciously.I now have a collection of tools and techniques which allows a change of thoughts, feelings, behaviours and ultimately outcomes. Changing how I think and what I think - and in changing how and what I think, I have dramatically transformed the results. NLP isn’t magic, or a bag of clever tricks, though its impact is pretty amazing.  All it takes is practice.I have learnt that language affects results – both verbal and body language; to be specific and to paraphrase and to always make sure I understand exactly what people mean when they use words. Listening is a skill … that needs heaps of practice. I have learnt to actually listen carefully, how to build rapport, match and mirror body language.I also had the realization that I was not getting the best out of my team as I asked closed questions and when I started using open questions it was like turning on a light switch."

"I would like to recommend Barbara Jaques from BJ Projects for some outstanding insight and help she provided.Previously I have used BJ Projects services for help with our business and relied on Barbara for accurate and experienced knowledge with our business endeavours. An opportunity arose where I was allowed choose a life coach/therapist/counsellor or any professional in this field for 4 sessions.  Rather than traditional therapy (or what I think traditional therapy is) I decided life coaching was the way forward for me. Barbara as usual was professional and knowledgeable. Time went fast and it was fun.  It is of no surprise that she wowed me at life coaching and how to tackle my ‘problem’. It wasn’t what I expected either. With Barbara she took the time to personally understand my challenges in order to offer REAL help, tips and insights that I could trial and move forward and decide whether or not it was for me.  The decisions for moving forward were made by helpful negotiation with completely focused attention on my life situation.  No judgement, just an unbiased friendly voice of support strong in your corner to move on from a life situation.  Use coaching to get to the next level of your life. Use Barbara to get you there successfully. Thanks Barbara."

I first met Barbara when she was my tutor at TWOA.  She was an excellent tutor, generous with her time and knowledge, which enable the entire class to be focus-driven and achieve their goals. Following on from that my husband and I worked with Barbara as our life coach/business mentor at varying times over the past couple of years.
In both roles I found her to be amazing.  Barbara has a wealth of knowledge in many areas.  With her excellent communication skills and generosity with her knowledge, she soon has you answering your own questions, solving your own problems and empowering you with the skills to just get on with it!
I found Barbara a pleasure to work with, and extremely professional at all times and have no hesitation recommending her as a business/coach/mentor.
